So next year i will be going into college and my major is going to be computer science and network security. it is a 5 year program which i’m happy because usually it would take longer. As a project going into the new year i will be building a custom computer of my own.
Here are the specs of it so far:

Kingin Lazer LZ-1000 1000w
EVGA x58 FTW3
Intel Core i7-980x
OCZ Reaper Edition 12GB DDR3 1333
PNY GTX 580 1536MB 384-bit (future: upgrade to SLI)

4 * WD Caviar Green 2TB raid 5 or 6
LG 10X Blu-ray Burner
Corsair hydro H70 (cpu cooler)
Windows 7 Ultimate and Ubuntu Dual Boot
This is just the basics so i will be adding to it later. i will post reviews and videos and photos when packages arrive, opening, installing, and testing so i will keep everyone updated as soon as this project gets started.

Server Online
by admin on Sep.29, 2010, under Tech
I have finally purchased the Amazon EC2 small for my web hosting. This will provide me with the reliability of uptime. There are some issues still to be worked out like the mail can only send but not receive and i still have to move my sites to the new server. So far i have only got my blog back up because for some reason the main site at http://jlbproductionsil.com gives a 404 error but in the config it shows the directory of where my files are. I already had issues with PHP, but that was fixed earlier tonight. So this is my update for today about my site.
New Hosting
by admin on Sep.22, 2010, under Tech
Update: over the past two years I have been hosting my website and all my sites I run. which is this blog, my main site, and all of the links that are on my site. I run on a IBM that is about 8 years old with a Pentium 4 in it and 1.5GB of ram and a 150GB HDD. I have been doing research on hosting and other services. I was first looking into a Virtual Private Server. but the costs for that is too high for the demand I would put on to it. After getting newsletters from Amazon AWS I thought about giving them a try. As I search their site, I notice the cost savings on the instances. I tested out their calculator and saw if i got a reserved instance instead of a on-demand instance i would save over $250 savings a year. I would also use their S3 service to have my pictures hosted so it lessens the load of my server, which would make my site even faster. So over all, I do like Amazon’s offering on these services. so in the next month I will be migrating my server to their Cloud.
